How daily travel budget calculator Works

Fixed first, daily second

The budget's fixed layer (flights, visas, pre-booked tours) is spent at booking; only the remainder divides into days. A $4,000 budget with $1,400 fixed supports ~$183/day across 12 days — not the naive $333. The daily rate computed honestly is the one travelers can actually hold at the ATM.

What the daily rate buys

The style bands translate the number: under $60 is hostel-and-street-food territory; $60–130 is mid-range (private rooms, restaurants sometimes); $130–280 is comfort (nice hotels, tours without pain); above that, luxury compounds. The rate also blends regions — a trip mixing Prague and Zurich averages, which is exactly how trips are actually spent.

The buffer decision

Holding 15% lowers the daily rate visibly — and converts it into guaranteed capacity for the unplanned. Travelers who hold it spend it (that is what buffers do), but on their terms: the upgrade, the extra night, the splurge meal. Skipping the buffer raises the rate by ~18% and removes the trip's shock absorber. Know which traveler you are.
